Abstract: Emotion can be conceptualized as an operating, evaluative, condition helping thus to organize behavior, i.e to consider both the costs and benefits associated to percepts and actions. In this sense, recent research is in favor of the inclusion of some emotion-related components in the information-processing architecture of artificial intelligence (AI) agents. Specifically, the cognitive–emotional integration is believed to be a key design principle for the problem-solving procedure of the AI. However, it should be noted that such an intervention does not allow an AI to have “feelings” but permits it to operate in an upgraded and promising way, having a more efficient and effective performance.
