Title of Paper (collaborative work by Professor Susan Anderson and Professor Michael Anderson):
AI and Ethics

Subdisciplinary Area: Philosophy

Keywords: Ethics, AI

Abstract: We need to ensure that AI developed entities are used and/or behave ethically. We consider six general approaches to doing so and argue that our approach -- that takes input from ethicists to determine the building blocks of ethics and discovers an ethical decision procedure to guide the behavior of a machine that functions in a particular domain – is best. Further, it has the added benefits of advancing the field of ethics, giving us a more impartial perspective of ethical behavior, and perhaps even leading to improvements in our own behavior.
